the closest I thought I got was when the read about homegroups only working with Windows 7 machines....so I turned it off..Guess what? This protocol has had some strange behaviors with other machines and some network devices. I don't see any lo in there, but perhaps I didn't put the right option in either. I'm almost positive it has a short somewhere....

It used to work on a LAN i had set up with my old computer (Win98) and I had the same firewall etc installed. Join thousands of tech enthusiasts and participate. It's the oddest this that it cannot reply to its own pings... But still can't use the machine name itself for ping/UNC.
